Not to slight Arnold Palmer or Fred Rogers, who were both born here; but the coolest thing about living here in Latrobe PA starts this Friday. That's the day that little St Vincent College , a mile and a half from my house, becomes the summer home of my Pittsburgh Steelers!

Re: LETS TALK FOOTBALL
Did some first hand scouting of the Steelers on Sunday.Young players like top pick Ryan Shazier are as fast as advertised. Defense especially front 7 will be much younger and faster. Smallish RB/WR Dri Archer, 3rd round pick, might be the Steelers fastest offensive player ever. Very interested to see how they use him
There's a night practice at the high school field right down the street this Friday; so I'll be seeing them again. Always a great time.

Very bad news for Nuttin and his Running back David Wilsons NFL career over
The New York Giants shut down running back David Wilson for the season, saying they will place him on injured reserve after doctors advised him to no longer play football as a result of the neck injury he sustained last week in training camp.
More from ESPN.com
However crushed David Wilson is by the latest news about his neck injury, hopefully he understands and appreciates the wisdom of a decision not to take chances with something as precious as his life, Dan Graziano writes. Story
Wilson had spinal fusion surgery in January to repair a disk problem and wasn't cleared for contact until July 21. He practiced with the Giants for the first week of training camp, but he left the field Tuesday after a collision with guard Eric Herman, and he was diagnosed with a burner.
The Giants sent Wilson to the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York for tests Tuesday night. Wednesday, they announced that he would sit out the remainder of last week's practices and Sunday night's preseason opener.
"David has diffuse cervical stenosis. He had a disk removed and a fusion in January," team physician Russell Warren said in a statement. "In light of last week's episode of symptoms, sensory and motor, [Dr.] Frank [Camissa Jr., who performed Wilson's surgery] and I both told David he should not play football anymore.
"We let David know that by playing, he would be putting himself at risk for more episodes like last week or perhaps something more serious."
Wilson said in the statement that he was "thankful that I can literally walk away from the game and that I am healthy and capable of doing the same things I have done all my life, except play football."
The Giants had said they would be thrilled if Wilson returned, but they also said all offseason that they'd be prepared in case he couldn't play again.
The team signed Rashad Jennings and Peyton Hillis in free agency and drafted Boston College star Andre Williams in the fourth round. Michael Cox, a seventh-round pick in the 2013 draft, also returns.
Williams had seven carries for 48 yards and scored on a 3-yard run in the Giants' 17-13 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night in the preseason-opening Hall of Fame Game

Re: LETS TALK FOOTBALL
1st preseason game for my at 7:30 P.M. tonight at the Washington Redskins. Not expecting much since a lot of starters will never see the field in this game. Going to be all about the new rookies and 2nd or 3rd year players trying to make a big impression on the coaching staff to stay around and make the final 53 man roster for opening day. But it is football season once again and I will be tuned in. Thanks for the new season to get kicked off. Enjoy fellas and if you have them use the But do not get it is still only the 1st pre season games

Re: LETS TALK FOOTBALL
I may be wrong but i still think BOTH POLL'S have got ALABAMA ranked to high ,i think they should be ranked either #6,#7 or #8, and i may be wrong on this as well and i hope i am , but i think ALABAMA is a 10 - 2 team this year .....we shall see ... .... i hope they prove me wrong .....
Here's my question on ALABAMA......Who's going to be QB. ...... Blake Simms or Jake COKER.....???? Blake although he has been in the system for a while and knows the system , he was a bench warmer for most of the time and only got to play clean up when the game was well in hand and in doing that he never really showed me anything to think he could keep the team together.
Jake Coker is new to the system and still making big mistakes .... he does have his high points but they are not constant ..... he may come along but for now he's still a lil shaky !

Re: LETS TALK FOOTBALL
New 13 member N.C.A.A. panel has been decided to determine the First Final Four teams for the new playoff system. In my opinion this is just as bad as having the computers pick a National Champion. The youngest person on the board is 54 years old and then you have some old washed up people that have been out of college football for so long that the game has passed them by
IRVING, Texas -- The 13-member College Football Playoff selection committee was officially introduced Wednesday.
Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long is the chair of the committee, which will be responsible for selecting the four teams that advance to the College Football Playoff beginning after the 2014 regular season.
CFP Selection Committee
Get ready, selection committee. The torches, pitchforks and message boards will be coming your way very soon, writes Ted Miller. Story
The College Football Playoff selection committee wasted no time appointing a woman, despite the initial outcry at Condoleezza Rice's inclusion, writes Andrea Adelson. Story
Committee blends members with broad ranges of experience across college football, writes Ivan Maisel. Story
The committee is a star-studded lineup, including former NFL quarterbacks Pat Haden, Archie Manning and Oliver Luck and former coaches Tom Osborne, Barry Alvarez and Tyrone Willingham. However, the biggest name unquestionably is the lone female -- former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
"Condi definitely earned her spot on this committee," College Football Playoff executive director Bill Hancock said. "She knows this game, she is a student of this game. ... Obviously, part of this is going to be the ability to make judgments under scrutiny, and Condi has that."
Rice says she's ready for the challenge.
"I have experience in decision-making under pressure, decision-making when you have to evaluate information, look at it in a variety of ways, working in a team to try to come up with good decision," Rice said in an interview with ESPN's Colin Cowherd that appeared on "Olbermann" on Wednesday night. "I think I can bring that to the committee."
Rice was a surprising pick to be part of the postseason system that will replace the Bowl Championship Series next year because she has never worked directly in college athletics, though when she was provost at Stanford the athletic department was under her supervision and she hired Willingham as football coach.
Some, such as former Auburn coach Pat Dye, have said they would prefer only those who have played football to be on the committee.
"I'd say coach I respect you, I remember your great run at Auburn, but I respectfully disagree," Rice told Cowherd. "There are others on the committee who have not played football. With all due respect to my dear friend Roger Goodell and Paul Tagliabue, the most influential NFL commissioner was Pete Rozelle. He never played football. You can be a student of something and not experience it. And I consider myself a student of college football. I am after all a student of Russia, but I've never been Russian, either. You can know something from following it and studying it. And I spend a lot of my time on Saturday with college football."

College Football Playoff selection committee member Condoleezza Rice talks about the criticism of her inclusion on the panel, how the process will work, the current format and more.

Rice said Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott first approached her about being part of the committee. She told Cowherd that she did her "homework" before saying yes to the job, also talking about it with Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby and Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick.
The remaining members of the committee: Mike Gould, Tom Jernstedt, Dan Radakovich, Mike Tranghese and Steve Wieberg.
"Our work will be difficult, but rewarding at the same time," Long said. "We have important judgments to make during that process. We realize we represent all of college football."
The committee will meet four times during the college football season and will release rankings every other week starting in mid-October, Hancock said.
Committee members will serve approximately three-year terms, although the initial members will have their terms staggered so they all don't leave at the same time. Committee members will not be paid, Hancock said.
The reason the committee is 13 was because it was "the right number," Hancock said. Everyone contacted to be on the committee enthusiastically wanted to be on the committee, but some individuals couldn't make the necessary time commitments. Hancock would not indicate how many individuals turned down the opportunity.
Hancock said future committees could have more or fewer members.
Rice, meanwhile, said she already has some thoughts on the system.
"I'm going to tell you, strength of schedule is going to matter a lot, head to head is going to matter a lot, and I think this is going to encourage teams to play a tougher schedule," Rice told Cowherd. "The committee is getting together soon and I'm looking forward to having the chance to discuss this without the pressure of picking teams."
Besides picking the four teams for the College Football Playoff, the selection committee will be responsible for ranking and placing at-large teams in the noncontract New Year's Day bowls (Cotton, Fiesta and Chick-fil-A).
The committee also must select the highest ranked champion from the non-Power Five leagues (American, Conference USA, Mid-American, Mountain West and Sun Belt), which will receive an automatic bid to one of the six bowls associated with the College Football Playoff.

OH BOY HERE WE GO ........
I still say it should have been a 8 team playoff
week 1 .....8 teams.....4 games
week 2 ....4 teams.....2 games
two week break then
week 4 ......2 teams.... NCG GAME
They already have the 2 week break in there , plus this would open up more bowl games for lesser teams to play in , plus help their schools !

ORLANDO, Fla. -- UCF's season opener in Ireland next week against Penn State may be in peril because of a possible volcanic eruption in Iceland.
Iceland's Civil Protection Department said Wednesday that about 500 people were evacuated from the highlands part of the Vatnajokull glacier. The action was taken as a precaution following thousands of small earthquakes recently near Bardarbunga, a sub-glacial stratovolcano under the glacier.
UCF departs for Ireland Aug. 26 for its Aug. 30 game. Athletics spokesman Andy Seeley said school officials are monitoring the situation.
Iceland is separated from Ireland by the Atlantic Ocean and about 900 miles, but a volcanic eruption in Iceland could produce volcanic ash and potentially affect flights to Europe. More than 100,000 flights were cancelled following the 2010 eruption of the Eyjafjallajokul volcano.

I say play the game in the USA , at PENN STATE or at UCF home field , pick one and play !

Re: LETS TALK FOOTBALL
The Pittsburgh Stoners looked terrible against the Eagles last night. Absolutely amazing how selfish and stupid some athletes are these days. I didn't like the Blount signing when it happened.
College football starts in a week. Already working on a few picks. Starting the 2nd week of September; I'll be going back to at least 6 days of work a week. That's good news. I'm going to try to get at least 10 picks a week in; even if I have to use my phone. Not complaining at all; been really blessed this year and looks like its going to continue until around Thanksgiving at least.

Hey Guys just want to know if everyone is back in again this year for weekly college and nfl picks between us?? Also are we all gonna be taken part in the weekly suicide ( elimination ) game we all did last year?? Once again the best time of the year is getting ready to start with both college and pro football kicking off. Best of luck to all teams and may we have a great football season....

Finally recovering from that great Penn State win. K Sam Gicken has come a long way in the last 3 years. Hackenberg set the school passing record. He's going to have to throw a lot unless the make shift O line improves. Very happy! We are
