CHECKIN IN
Just got home from my Good friends ( co-worker ) wake. The entire warehouse staff ( all 3 shifts ) showed up including all supervisors. the owner and President of the company showed as well with a GREAT surprise for his family. Even though he had been with us for 3 years his first 2 years were through the staffing agency. He got hired into the company last July 30th, 2014. He was only 2 weeks away from qualifying for life insurance. The Owner told the family that a collection is being taken at the plant through the Human Resource department and any funds collected will be matched and doubled by the Blount corporation to help with any and all funeral expenses... Just goes to show what a class company I am fortunate to work for to them

Re: CHECKIN IN
Yes Ivan it was a very very nice thing that my company is doing for his family. Now I am planning on a very long day on Saturday. Funeral home at 8:00 A.M. to be with the other pall bearers.... Church service at 9:00 A.M. Burial at Cemetary 10:30 A.M. followed by a brunch at local restaurant 11:30 A.M. Then after that all the warehouse gang ( all 3 shifts ) going to a local watering hole and really putting the final touches on his life to rest..... That is what he would expect us to do... Not to drown our sorrows but celebrate his lifeupchitcreek wrote:Josilv5 wrote:Just got home from my Good friends ( co-worker ) wake. Re: CHECKIN IN
Hey guys now 1 and a half weeks after my good friend from work was taken off life support from the head injury he suffered in the bicycle accident and the wake and funeral. we all at work finally got some closer as to what happened that Sunday morning today. It appears it was now a complete freak accident with no malice intended. His wife notified all of us today that a police investigation had been under way all the time and come to find out a witness finally came forward on Monday to the police. A women ( 72 years old ) who was in her yard doing her garden across the street from where it happened told police she saw a man on a bicycle riding down the street and then saw him and his bike go up in the air and land in a flower bed across the street. She was going to call someone when she noticed the man moving to get up and assumed he was alright. At the same time her phone was ringing so she went to answer it. She told police about 15 minutes later she saw the ambulance pull up but figured they were there to treat the man it was not until 3 days later that she learned the man she saw had actually passed away. Official report from medical examiner now says cause of death was instant blow on the back of head caused when he attempted to get up from the crash and then fell again hitting the lower brick wall of the flower bed. We can only assume he thought he was okay but had probably already suffered a concussion and become unsteady when trying to get up. Landing in the flower bed is why medical examiner and police are saying there were no other injuries to his body because the flowers initially broke the first fall. At least now we all at work have a complete closure to this heart breaking situation...... R.I.P. my Good Friend Pauly.....

Hey Guys..... Hope everyone is well and their families  also. Just had a small 2 day vacation break from work to unwind from the situation at work ( the loss of our good friend ) Spent most of the time with my Grandson Shane.... Kept thinking how my friend passed away with twin daughters at an early age and it got me to thinking how short life can be to enjoy the young ones in your life that matter. Cannot imagine what his life would be like if something happened to me or my wife terry at his young age of 4. So I took him to the zoo, spent time in the parks playing in the playgrounds on the swings and slides, but the biggest JOY I had with him was taking him for the 1st time Fishing and he caught not one but two fish. He was so excited but did not want to keep them. So he asked me to put them back in the water so they could get bigger like him and grow. He brought me tears ( I am not afraid to admit this ) I am changing my avatar to show his picture.

2 Black Thugs Beat 76-Year-Old Woman in Omaha Church
Let me get at these pieces of SHIT !!!! Watch the video ! Punk motherfu##ers !!!!!
Police are searching for two thugs who assaulted and robbed a 76-year-old woman inside a cathedral just before Mass.
A video of the incident appears to show two black men walk into the Nebraska cathedral, steal the woman’s purse, and punch her in the face before fleeing.
Now she’s merely asking that people pray for her attackers.

Re: CHECKIN IN
Well Guys after 17 years and 186,500 miles my 1998 ford escort looks like it has finally had it last day s on the road.... Sunday morning every thing was going fine car started up went to do do a couple of errands and on my last stop heading home. Car started and kicked and died a few feet later. A couple of good people in the parking lot where I was tried to help. thought it was the battery but it checked out as good. Just a loud clicking noise when turning the key. Thought it was the starter that shit the bed. Had it towed to my local mechanic but he told me today that starter and alternator are fine. He thinks that something internal in the engine has gone bad. He said that trying to turn the engine manually using using a long wrench did not help and thinks the engine is seized maybe do to a piston or engine rod or valve maybe bent. In the end this looks like I am going to be out of a car unless he finds some miracle on Tuesday. He even took the the timing belt off and still could not get the engine to turn manually. Ivan if you see this post give me your answer if this situation seems right to you. I know you you deal with cars all the time and would like your input on my situation.

Re: CHECKIN IN
OH man BUD , There are a few things that could be , but first i would need to know if he had the starter off the engine when he was trying to turn the engine over by hand , it in itself could be locking up against the fly wheel and stopping the engine from turning over ( even if the starter checked out fine off the car ). Also did he pull the spark plugs out to see if it was what is called gas locked , sometimes a injector will go bad and flood a cylinder with gas and lock it up .
If he has checked those and it is still locked up then you got problems , spun main , rod or crank bearing.....(maybe ) , if it is just a spun bearing he can drop the oil pan and put new bearings in , but that can cost a pretty penny , you might be better off going to a junk yard and getting a used engine and putting it in !
If it is a bent valve he can pull the head and rework the head ( put new valves in ) . But then again check around it might be cheaper to just put a used motor in it .
I dont think it is a bent valve though , if he had the timing belt off and it still didnt turn over that means the problem is in the bottom end of the engine (bearings ,piston rod , wrist pin ) or the starter is locking up against the flywheel , or a cylinder is gas locked .
Either way would be cheaper than buying another car !!!
A bad starter or injector would be the cheapest thing's to fix .

Thanks Ivan for your input but in the end I ended up having to junk the car today. Mechanic basically took the engine apart and did find a bent valve broken piston and a break in the camshaft. After considering all options ( mainly 1 ) of putting in a used motor lowest price engine was still gonna be around $1100.00 from any junk yard in the area. Made the decision that is was not worth putting that kind of money into a 17 year old car. My mechanic who I have done business with for 15 years told me it was the best choice. He even cut me a big break. After spending 2 days of pulling the engine apart plus the towing fee all he had me do was sign over the title to him he gave me a bill of sale stating that the sale was for junk car and he cleared all labor charges that he was already going to charge me that would have been around $500.00.... Already have something in the works with getting another used car in the next few days to week. Gas station just down the street from me has some nice used cars on his lot and I spoke with him today and could get a deal with $400.00 to $600.00 down payment and then weekly payments of just $30.00.... He has cars ranging from as low as $1500.00 to $4000.00 mostly from 2003 to 2007..... Going back tomorrow after work to start looking them over.

Sounds like to me it jumped time and bent the valve which broke the cam and drove valve into the piston .

Got one lined up to get Friday...... 2002 Pontiac Sun fire..... 102,000 miles ( not bad for 13 years old ) $1500.00/ down payment of $500.00 and then 33 weekly payments of $30.00 or 9 months of $120.00 payments. My choice to pay weekly or monthly. Just have to go to him Friday afternoon after work with the 1st payment and bring license plate from old car and he will give me all the paperwork to take to my insurance company. Just need your input. How much extra do you believe it is going to cost me at the RMV to transfer my old registration ( which I just got the plate sticker for back in April ) over to this car. Also how much for a new title and any taxes that will need to be paid. Massachusetts has a sales tax rate of 6.25%..... Thanks buddy for any help. This is really the first time I am going to be doing this my self. In the past there was always someone else that handled the Registry work and gave me a final cost.

Re: CHECKIN IN
That all varies from state to state ...here it is $50 for the tag and $50 for a in state transfer of the title .....$200 for out of state ....then what ever your state tax is .....so  6.25 percent tax on the total sale price of the car .
In ALABAMA it cost $20.00 plus a new sticker for the tag .....then 6% of the total sale price .

hey guys the new 55,000 square foot warehouse expansion just opened today. 9 new shipping doors to deal with now. The 9 old warehouse dock doors are now just for receiving. As big as this new warehouse area is now we could play a football game in it. Plans already in the works for an additional 35,000 square feet to be added on by the end of 2016 The plant engineer was joking with all us guys in the warehouse that by the time the final expansion takes place he just might have to add a full bunk room and dinning room so we do not even need to go home any more on his part. $$$$ is great right now but I forgot what my wife looks like ( I do not know if that is good or bad )

Re: CHECKIN IN
Hey guys sorry for not checking in sooner on this thread but things have been bad around here ( outside of work going good ) my Dad has been in the I.C.U. ( and on life support for the last 5 days ) he came down with Pneumonia that went so bad that he could not swallow right and the other night in his sleep he must have chocked  on his own and suffered a heart attack and has been on a ventilator since. They had to perform CPR to bring him back ( at 92 years old ) not good. His heart rate has been going up and down like a roller coaster but the doctors are telling me that the fluid in his right lung is not going away and that his kidneys are also not letting him produce enough urine. kidney specialist has put him on a strong med to try and help his kidneys produce more. With the strain on his heart from the breathing trouble if he is not able to recover from the fluid in his lung I have gone and signed the waiver on my health care proxy for him and told the hospital if his heart stops again to not perform CPR a second time and let him pass away peacefully .... This was the toughest decision I have ever had to make. I pray to GOD that he takes him first to his side in heaven and that my decision is not the one that sends my DAD there first

Re: CHECKIN IN
Went to hospital today after work to check on my DAD. doctor told me that they have increased the diuretic meds to try and help his kidneys to expel more body fluid. His body is still holding to much fluid ( looks like the elephant man ) very and very .... Only bright side is they have been able to take him off the blood pressure medicine and that his heart is keeping a steady rate ( it does drop every now and then but seems to come back ) still have him on the breathing machine because of his weakened state from the kidney problems. Doctor told me the next step would be for them if his kidneys do not respond to the Diuretics medicine would be kidney dialysis to bypass his own kidneys and expel the excess body fluid that way. After signing that DNR acceptance to let him pass if his heart stops again I may have also backed myself into a corner with letting the treatments go forward with all other means to treat him even if I do not agree with them.I stated my wishes to let him pass peacefully for heart related matters. Have to find out if I can change the health care proxy again to refuse any treatment if I feel it is right and my decisions

Re: CHECKIN IN
Hey Bud , his kidney's have already shut down from what you are saying and at his age , even if they do the dialysis more then likely either his heart or liver will be next ....if they start talking to you about ammonia level's ....that's not good at all , that means his body (mainly his liver) is totally giving up and he's gone no matter what they do .
As far as changing your mind , you should be able to .
Again all of you are in our prayers ............

Re: CHECKIN IN
Got called after work today on my DAD from hospital. Some good news for the 1st time in 2 weeks. Was told that the diuretics to help his kidneys have helped him produce more urine then he had been putting out. Also told that they did some sort of lung exercises to see if his lungs would go on their own without the ventilator tube and he responded by breathing own his own for a couple of hours before having to go back on the ventilator. doctor told me that they are going to try and take the breathing tube out tonight and see how he responds over night. Heart rate seems to be staying steady ( it does drop at times ) but has come back on it`s own to a normal level. Not getting my hopes up but any somewhat good news is better then nothing. I still have told them if his heart does stop again to let him pass away peacefully.

Got called from hospital again today after work. They are gonna move my DAD out of the I.C.U. and into a regular room by Friday afternoon or Saturday morning. Ventilator tube has been out since yesterday and Doctor told me that the diuretics have been more successful with his kidneys helping to put out even more urine in the last 20 hours. He still has the pneumonia real bad with a lot of fluid still in his right lung but Doctor is saying that if his kidneys stay producing and he keeps breathing on his own they hope with the diuretics and antibiotics for the pneumonia that he will keep expelling more fluids and that should help with the lung fluid also. He is still in a very guarded state and is not speaking but does respond to some physical stimulation. Heart rate and vital signs seem to have stabilized but still not getting up to much hope his body has gone through HELL for the last 2 weeks and long road still to go I believe. Right now I take it from hour to hour and day to day. Every time my house or cell phone rings I still am expecting the worse. I want to thank you guys for your thoughts and prayers they have meant a lot to me over the last few days guys.... These are the times that have kept us all close ( in my opinion ) with everything we have all gone through over the years going back starting with the un-employed friends website ( cannot even remember how many years we have all been together now ) always there for each other though and always will be

Re: CHECKIN IN
Well sorry to say that my DAD has not improved anymore more then the last update. Diuretics had been working to help his kidney`s produce more urine but was told today that he is still in very bad situation. Made one last decision today at hospital to approve kidney dialysis. Was told this may help his body to regain a normal fluid output and may also help with the lung fluid from the pneumonia  in his right lung. I know this is a last possible treatment before I tell the hospital to just put him on a full comfort level of treatment which I was told will be no more Iv`s ( MEDS ) and let him pass away peacefully. I have made this decision with no more regrets in my heart and now know that I have made the right decision if it will be GODS will

Re: CHECKIN IN
Well guys all my try`s to help my DAD have now run out.Went to hospital Tuesday and met with Doctor and nothing else the hospital can do to help him. Kidneys still not responding as they should and kidney dialysis was ruled out by specialists due to his extremely weakened condition. His body is just retaining fluid and swelling more and more.Decision was made by myself and Doctor to send him back to the nursing home with just his feeding tube and I have put him on a comfort level of treatment. Just pain killers if he needs them and have told the nursing home I still want him as a D.N.R. patient . Have a meeting Thursday afternoon after I get out of work with the Social Service Director to discuss what happens next. It is my plan to tell them to just keep him comfortable and let him pass away peacefully. Still very but at peace still with my decisions.

Re: CHECKIN IN
Well guy`s no more suffering for my DAD. He passed away at 10:00A.M. this morning ( peaceful ) Heart just stopped and he finally is now resting in a far better place. Already been to funeral home and final arrangements have been made.Simple direct cremation is what DAD wanted. No Wake, Church, or Funeral service. Cost of $2400.00 but because of my DAD`S military service with the Army in World War II I gave the funeral home a copy of his Honorable Discharge paper from 1944 and they are submitting that to the local Veterans office for assistance which I was told could be as much as $2000.00 toward expenses. By Massachusetts law a body cannot be cremated for at least 48 hours after death so because he passed away today ( Thursday ) Cremation cannot take place until at least Monday of next week ( cremation services do not happen on weekends ). Went to my jobs Human Resources department this afternoon and told them of the situation and they told me that my bereavement period will allow me to have Friday off, next Monday and Tuesday off also with pay. As as it is to say I feel even more at peace now then I did before I last posted on here. I feel a giant weight has lifted off my shoulders and can now try to return to a somewhat normal life with my wife, children, and grand children. Prayers to you my LOVING DAD. MAY GOD hold you in his loving hands until the day we meet again

Re: CHECKIN IN
Hey guys. My DADS final transition took place this morning when his body was finally cremated. Was told by the funeral home that I should be able to claim his Ashes within 48 hours. Local laws require a period of time to make sure ashes are cooled to a perfect temp before being released to the family member. I hope to have my DADS ashes home with me by Thursday. After that I will keep him with me until I can find the right time to carry out his last wish to me and scatter his ashes out over the water of our favorite fishing spot that we used for many years when I was younger. Local laws prohibit this but I have many friends that have told me if I have to wait until the spring time that one of them will take me out on a boat away from shore and help me give him his final resting place as he would want.

Hey Bud , that's what friends do for each other .
I hope you can put this behind you soon and move on ,but there are going to be times that no matter how hard you try to just remember him.... the hurt will still be there , like X-MAS, Thanksgiving , his birthday and your birthday . These are the times i'm speaking of .

I know what you mean BUDDY. Just got called today from the funeral home. My DADS ashes are gonna be waiting for me Thursday afternoon to pick up and bring home. Already had in the back of my mind how I will react after getting them because my Birthday is already next week ( November 12th ) Thanksgiving 2 weeks later and X-MAS just one more month away. Every single day since he passed away just about 90% of the time to get home I have to drive by the nursing home he was in for the past 7 years and still want to pull my car in to the parking lot and think I can go see him. I believe tomorrow ( Thursday ) when I have his URN of ashes coming home is when my emotions just might break down one last time. Already have a spot picked out in my Den ( computer room ) where his URN is gonna be kept for now with a little memorial already set up with pics of me and him when I was younger and a special frame I have set up showing his military ribbons from his World War II North African Campaign and old pics of him and his war buddies did this with Veteran`s Day coming one day before my birthday... One last tribute to a long life well earned to my DAD and toss a cold back with me in his honor......

Wishing you luck bud , it took me 5 years for it to ease up after my Father died in 1975 . I was the last person to talk to him alive , he asked for my help to finish a job he had started in Lebanon Tenn. (a heart clinic of all things ) 150 feet from a ER !!!! I canceled my date that night (Saturday) and packed my bags to leave ,20 mins. later the phone rang again and it was my Dad's best friend which had went out to check on my dad ,telling me my dad died in his truck with the door open right after he hung up talking to me .......in the ER parking..... of a heart attack .... My mom passed in 2004 and i still hurt till today over her !

Re: CHECKIN IN
Well guys tomorrow Thursday November 12 is gonna be my first Birthday in my life without my DAD being around for my 51 years. As I sit here writing to you guys I look up at the shelf in my Den/ Computer room where I have his Urn of Ashes and starting to get the reality that he is truly gone from my life. Knew my birthday would be hard without him but still have the trouble of how I am gonna deal with Thanksgiving in 2 weeks and then X-MAS next month.Maybe once the Holidays pass for the 1st time without him around it will start to get easier. Still sit here and talk to him and the wife comes in and sees me crying and does her best to help me but then I look at the picture of our Grandson next to him and start to think that with the passing of his long productive life there is still a new young life to cling on to and move ahead with down the roads ahead of us as a family.
