Not About Sports I need prayers

Hey guys.We all been around together for a long time on this site and the old one for years. I got some real bad news this morning at work. My DAD suffered a mild Heart Attack last night at his nursing home ( mild if you want to take into account he is 90 years old and 12 years removed from triple bypass heart surgery ) He is now in the C.C.U. ( Critical Care Unit ) of our local hospital. Doctors have him sedated for 18 of 24 hours trying to get his irregular heartbeat under control. I have been told that he may have an enlarged valve in his heart that may need surgery but not until they can get his pulse rate down. Doctors also told me that due to his age and prior conditions ( Diabetes ) that he might not survive a major operation and that I have to make the decision ( I hold his Medical Proxy Rights ) I am totally torn in making this decision to risk losing him through the operation or letting him go and no more suffering for a long life well lived. Doctors are giving me a 80% to 20% chance of not getting through the operation.Any thoughts from you my long time friends will be greatly helpful and the decision I have to make. I know what kinda decision your dealing with , i had to make the decision to put a  DNR  ( do not resuscitate ) on my mother , brother i can tell it hurts a lot but it had to be done , i really dont know what to tell you except I KNOW you will do what's right for you and him . At least with my mom i know she's at peace now no more pain !

Do what you know in your heart he would want done .

Jos Prayers for you during this difficult time. I had to make a similar decision with my Dad. He had an Aorta diissection, and was in ICU for 3 weeks. He survived that ,although his kidneys failed so he went on dialysis,and lost the use of his legs, so he was confined to a wheelchair. For 2 years he still had a bit of a quality life. Then the heart started leaking again, and he was on the breathing machine, and in a coma. The Docs said he would most likely never breathe on his own. At that point i realized he had led a full life, of good times, and family love. He had been able to see his 2 Grandchildren be born, at be with them for 7 and 5 years. I knew he would not have wanted to be like this, and although I m not a Religious man, if there is an afterlife, , it was time for him to be re united with My Mom who passed away first in a beautiful place.

Sorry I missed this. I have no answers for you my friend. I do know that God has complete control and I'll pray for him to give you guidance and strength in these difficult times. God bless you and your family.

Thanks everyone for their well wishes and support. Just got back from the hospital a little while ago and my dad has been moved from C.C.U. ( critical care unit ) to the I.C.U. ( intensive care unit ) the doctors told me they have his heart rate under control and that on Sunday they are gonna put a probe into his heart because they believe he might have a blocked valve instead of a enlarged and failing valve.The Angioplasty procedure if successful will then let the doctors place a heart stent in to make sure the blockage ( if that is what it is ) is cleared and not able to come back.So as of now I can only hold on to the doctors hopes that this procedure works and that I do not have to make that difficult decision on major heart surgery or letting my DAD go. Still very    and  

Good news Bud, a Heart Cath is a simple procedure ( it's the same they do to put in a stent ) , i have to get one once a year so they can monitor a torn valve in my heart which happened during the heart attack i had in 2001 , they dont even put me to sleep and i'm in and out of the hospital in less than 6 hours . Here's to hoping all goes well with your DAD !

Just an update from today. My Dad had the Angioplasty procedure done and a blockage was removed from a heart valve. He is in stable condition ( but still not out of the woods yet ) Doctors told me he is still showing signs of weakening heart muscles. To help this they are giving him beta-blockers and water pills ( to help him produce more urine that will help take stress off his heart ) updates from the hospital will be coming to me daily but the doctors do tell me they believe this new prescription methods will work out in the long run. I am still very affraid and scared.
